Alfeo's work mainly reflects on Timor-Leste’s long-standing struggle to secure sovereignty through permanent maritime boundaries with Australia. The existence of natural resources (oil and gas) in its seas places Timor-Leste at the mercy of global forces and foreign interests and his message is that it's not his fault to be born as a Timorese person with these natural resources. My work depicts the resource curse, alongside cultural and natural symbols (the buffalo skull, Tais, sacred house, rocks), national character, a traditional way of living and system of beliefs. While at Frontyard, Alfeo will be working on a two-page comic story for Art Review Asia magazine and also rehearsing for an upcoming play reading called 'A Spy in the House of Love' which also addresses the maritime boundary issue.
