Super great value, legendary pork roll banh mi; they do a vegetarian one also. You can ask for a wholemeal bun (at no extra charge) or to add tofu (for a small fee), and they will always ask, “with chilli or no chilli?” There’s often a huge line but it moves quickly, and they are so popular there’s even another location at the other end of Illawarra Road. Yummy rice paper rolls too.

There are lots of pho places, it’s pretty easy to tell the good from the bad as the restaurants are either completely packed or empty.

Alex 'N' Rolls 321 Illawarra Rd (6-minute walk)

Small operation - Big Flavour! This tiny operation serves some of the best Vietnamese food out of the window of an unsuspecting house. Despite the name, they are not currently making rolls, but the rice and noodle dishes are outstanding. Hours vary depending on the day, and they close when they're out of food.
