Getting to Frontyard

Public transport

  • Frontyard is approximately 550m or a 7-minute walk from Marrickville station. The following buses stop at Marrickville Rd before Illawarra Road, which is a 1-minute walk to Frontyard Projects: 418, 423, 425, 426, 423X.

Car parking

  • The nearest marked accessible parking spots are at the Calvert Street car park, which has 2 accessible parking spots. This car park is at the intersection of Illawarra Road and Calvert Street, approximately 2 blocks down Illawarra Road from Frontyard (280 meters).
  • When walking from the car park towards Frontyard, the footpath on the car park side of the road is more recently paved and smoother.
  • The pedestrian exit for the Calvert Street car park measures approximately 125cm in width.
  • On Sundays, street parking is unlimited and free on Illawarra Road outside of Frontyard. Note, however, that street parking may be busy because it is a weekend.

Bikes

  • Be aware that Illawarra Road and Marrickville Road do not have separate bike paths. The speed limit of these roads is 50km/hr, although cars often move fairly slowly through traffic along these roads.

Layout, movement in the space & wheelchair accessibility

  • The front door of Frontyard is wheelchair accessible via a small ramp. However, the front gate outside the building is not very wide (95cm), and the path to the front door through the garden is slightly slanted up. Please note that the ramp at the front door is unfixed to the ground and be careful when using it. There are no raised steps within the building. * Frontyard has an arrangement of different chairs available for you to use and rearrange (including cushions for the ground).

Please note: There are no wheel-chair accessible toilets in the venue. Wheelchair users must leave through the main entrance to access the accessible toilet at Calvert Street car park, about 280 metres away from the venue.

Toilets & amenities

  • There are two all-gender bathrooms at the venue. They are not wheelchair accessible, as the entryway to both toilets and the toilet rooms themselves are quite narrow. The nearest wheelchair-accessible toilet is at Calvert Street Carpark on Illawarra Road, about 280 metres from the venue (where the aforementioned accessible parking is). There are no heavy doors (the door opens using a press button) to this toilet.
  • There is a kitchen with a microwave, a small oven, a kettle, and a portable hotplate for communal use, but it is a very small space at the end of a narrow hallway. Included are bowls, plates, cutlery, cups and mugs available for use. Please make sure to leave the kitchen clean with everything returned to its rightful place, and empty the compost bucket in the kitchen before you leave.

Covid safety We acknowledge and take seriously the ongoing mass disabling and killing event that is the COVID pandemic. If you are unwell, experiencing symptoms, test positive to COVID or were recently in close contact with a COVID case, we ask that you do not come to Frontyard.'

  • Masks: We highly encourage wearing a high-quality mask - this is the best mitigation against the spread of COVID and is most effective with collective participation.
  • RAT test: We highly encourage doing a RAT test before attending Frontyard events, especially if you have recently engaged in high-risk activities (e.g. large gatherings, taking a flight, concerts, etc.)

Ventilation/air quality: The venue has multiple windows that are medium-sized. We will keep these windows open (unless the weather does not allow). There is an air purifier on-site, which is now available to use.

Sensory information Lighting

  • The front room is flooded with indirect natural light. The overhead lights are warm and not super bright.

Noise

  • Planes flying overhead are audible from the venue. They can be quite loud.
  • Ambient background noise of birds outside and cars driving past on the street.

Scents

  • We ask that people don’t wear perfume or strong scents where possible to make the space accessible for people who have scent-related sensory issues.
